What do you know about Alzheimer’s disease? Let this video give you a little more information about the facts surrounding Alzheimer’s.
Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, a day dedicated to informing the general public about the little known effects and dangers of this serious health problem. In the U.S. alone, 5.4 million people suffer from this disease, and this number is rapidly rising as a new person develops it every 69 seconds.
While the main effect of Alzheimer’s disease- memory loss- is commonly known about, many people don’t know how the disease develops and where it comes from. The truth is, medical professionals and scientists don’t know either. At this point in time, there are no known sources, prevention methods, or cures for the disease.
You can, however, eliminate one of the factors that increases your risk of developing Alzheimer’s. All you need to do is take good care of your teeth and gums by brushing and flossing thoroughly and appropriately and by visiting your dentist for regular dental cleanings and checkups every six months. Sounds simple enough, right?
Research shows that periodontal (gum) disease is directly linked to an increased chance of developing Alzheimer’s, as well as other serious health problems, including diabetes, heart and cardiovascular disease, and risk of stroke. If caring for your smile decreases your chances of developing these health complications (plus others) later in life, will you take the time to do it?
Domestic violence fosters feelings of…sadness, self consciousness, worthlessness, and embarrassment. These feelings are the reason volunteer dentists and their patients are banding together to be the voice of this silent epidemic.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s (AACDCF) primary program, Give Back A Smile (GBAS), provides cosmetic dental care to survivors of domestic violence through a nationwide network of dental professionals. With the support of Discus Dental and Ultradent Products, Inc., the AACDCF has established a program to help raise funds for the Foundation by having volunteers provide whitening treatments to their patients in exchange for donations to this worthy cause. The Pannu Dental Clinics is a GBAS Whitening Program provider in the Bay Area and is participating in the GBAS Whitening Program Challenge that runs from March 1 – March 30, 2010.
“The GBAS Whitening Program Challenge benefits everyone. Not only will patients in our area have whiter and brighter smiles, but whitening treatments performed at my office will generate increased resources to allow the AACDCF to help more domestic violence survivors,” says Dr. Pannu.
Domestic violence affects one in four women. This silent epidemic is cross-cultural, income defiant, and gender blind. It can happen to your mother, sister, brother, daughter, cousin, and/or neighbor. Domestic violence occurs right here in the Bay Area. Join Pannu Dental Clinic in fighting back.

It was a beautiful morning that Sunday and I remember getting up earlier than usual to get to Campbell on time. I have been looking forward to this event for months now. The Jungle Run Half Marathon consists of a 13.1-mile run/walk that starts and finishes in Los Gatos at the Los Gatos High School Track. The course extends North through the streets of Los Gatos and onto the scenic Los Gatos Creek Trail at the Los Gatos Creek County Park in Campbell. The athletes have always enjoyed the creek-side views on their way back into Los Gatos and into breathtaking Vasona Park. After a small loop around Vasona Lake, we continued South on the Los Gatos Creek Trail into Old Town Los Gatos. From there, it’s a short out and back on the unpaved portion of the trail. The turn around takes place before the Dam (and the hills!). Runners then retrace their steps back to the finish line festivities on the Los Gatos High School track. I ran 13.1 miles and finished at 2:31:03. What a great day that was! WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!
I was watching The Late Night show with Conan O’Brien the other night and was immensely entertained with William Shatner’s poetic take-off on Sarah Palin’s speech. I had been an avid follower of “Captain Kirk’s” voyages since I was a kid and have a great admiration for this guy who was able to evolve as an actor through the years. And although Shatner’s career hasn’t always been that hot & suffered typecasting badly after Star Trek and his one attempt at a TV Cop series, he really reinvented himself with Boston Legal. So naturally, being interviewed by his team at the “Heartbeat of America” show was not just a pleasure but an honor as well. The experience was so surreal that I felt I had gone where no man had gone before! Check out the video clips below;
